"[The FDA is] trying to fit a square peg into a round hole...[by] trying to force an ultimate conclusion that there is no difference between foods modified by genetic engineering and foods modified by traditional breeding practices."

Dr. Linda Kahl, an FDA compliance officer
Under its Organic Certification Program, TDA inspects and certifies organic farms as well as businesses that process, distribute, and/or retail organic food or fiber. To be certified, all must comply with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Standards. In exchange for this compliance, participants are entitled to use a marketing logo identifying their products as TDA-certified, as well as the USDA Organic seal. The TDA Certified Organic Program helps Texas farmers diversify their operations and capture a bigger share of a growing premium market, it guarantees the authenticity of organic food and fiber to consumers who choose organic products, and it helps retailers respond to the increasing public demand for organic products.
This page lists certified organic producers as of October 17, 2005, as well as applicants for certification. Because the number of certified entities changes constantly there may be businesses listed who are no longer certified and new businesses that are not listed.
SomeInformation about processors and distributors as well as details about type and status of certification have been omitted from this page. Please contact the TDA if more specific information is required.
If you would like to know more about the Organic Certification Program or if you would like an application for certification, please contact the organic program at (512) 475-1641 or (512) 463- 7615 or by email at organic@agr.state.tx.us
